What is dementia?

Dementia is a syndrome associated with damage to the brain, which can affect people's memory, language and understanding.

Dementia, which is reasonably common, usually affects people over the age of 65, and many sufferers rely on support from relatives and friends.

People with dementia can sometimes have trouble controlling their emotions or handling social situations and need help to make decisions.

There is currently no cure for dementia and related conditions like Alzheimer's disease and symptoms become worse over time, although there are treatments to help people better cope.

There are currently approximately 750,000 people with dementia in the UK, a figure which is expected to double over the next 30 years.

Dementia home care

At Communicare over the years we have found that one of the greatest fears someone might have after a diagnosis with dementia or Alzheimer's, is that of not being able to live in their own home.

Our specialist dementia home care service provides care for dementia suffers and their families, helping that person to retain their sense of identity and feelings of self-worth.

Our carers are trained in all stages of dementia care which can enable you to live in your own home allowing the surroundings to be still familiar. Dementia care ranges from a minimum of half an hour a day just to ensure you are comfortable to 7 day support.

At Communicare we will develop a dementia care plan that is right for the dementia sufferer and their family.
